Broken Robot Sequence

Taking the advice of my SCBWI Illustration Mentors, I've added a couple of drawings to turn my Broken Robot image into a storytelling sequence.

A few days back I posted a quickie sketch I did on my iPad. Today I decided to do a polished and higher res version (see above) to add to my portfolio. It's not really appropriate for a child's picture book, but I'm hoping to get work illustrating novels for young people. Or I may do a graphic novel someday, who knows?

This is a revamp of the robot image from my very first (and, um, only) portfolio from 2010, which I did as an Illustration Friday post:

Since that original image, I've learned a great deal from advice given by my SCBWI Illustration Mentors but especially my experience working on I'M BORED with Laurent Linn and Justin Chanda at Simon & Schuster Books For Young Readers.
For the revamped drawing, I tried to keep the loose line but adding a more interesting background and a slightly different perspective. I've also added a few more images in the sequence for my portfolio.
