One of the favourite images among the SCBWI Illustration Portfolio Mentors was one of my Little Nightmare creatures, so I've written a picture book story about them. The image above, by the way, has nothing to do with the story -- I just like drawing these little guys.

One of my SCBWI mentors suggested I experiment with mixing colours to create black rather than use pure black when doing my Little Nightmare creatures. Love this idea! But I'm also experimenting with non-black Little Nightmare creatures too.
I really, really want to do a picture book using my Little Nightmare creatures but figured that the overall effect would be too dark. But (inspired by my SCBWI mentorship sessions!), I'm going do more experimenting with mixing colours in the foreground and the background.
